Meet your Doctor

1. What led you to become a doctor or choose your focus of medicine?
At an early age, I was able to see how gratifying medicine was through my mom who worked as a nurse, and I decided to choose hospital medicine because this way I am also able to have a direct and immediate impact on my patients’ care and closely follow their overall medical condition.

2. What about your line of work do you find most rewarding and why?
The ability to understand a patient’s condition and all of its complexities as well as connecting with patients and their families.

3. How would a patient describe you?
Humble, compassionate, energetic.

4. What is your proudest moment as a doctor?
I was on an airplane on vacation and a patient's mother approached me and said, "Dr.Wayal, what you said to my daughter during her hospital stay really made an impact on her, and now she is in rehab! Thank you so much!" and gave me a big hug. When patients can remember me and the impact I had on them that makes my job all the more worthwhile and gratifying.

5. In your opinion, what’s the most important factor in a doctor-patient relationship?
Open communication and trust.

6. What can a patient expect when they have you as a doctor?
They can expect the highest standard of care, professionalism and honesty.

7. What are your top priorities with every patient you see?
Establishing great rapport, trust and open communication with patients and their families

8. Describe the top ways you ensure each patient receives the quality, personal health care he/she deserves?
By continuing to stay up-to-date on all current guidelines and evidence-based literature, always keeping the patient informed and updated on their condition and reminding them that I am always there for them when they need me.
